So, a few people know this, but a primary way of getting my reading fix happens through Wattpad, an app and website where you can read and/or write books for free. It’s a pretty large community and inundated with fan-fiction, bad boy stories, and other, popular things that are always being recommended, but there are some gems on the website if you look hard enough. I also have a YouTube channel! The video explaining more about these books is linked right here.
Therefore, here I am with some of my favorites!
*Some areas in the descriptions are edited for clarity and no covers are posted as covers on Wattpad can and will change at random. The descriptions used are the descriptions from the “about” section of the book.
Paladin by Sally Slater
Sam is the most promising swordsman among this year’s crop of Paladin trainees…and knows it. Brash, cocky, and unbeatable with a sword (well, almost), Sam is the kingdom of Thule’s best hope against the violence wrought by demons. The only problem is that Sam is really Lady Samantha, daughter of the seventeenth Duke of Haywood, and if her father has his way, she’ll be marrying a Paladin, not becoming one.
But Sam has never held much interest in playing damsel-in-distress, and so she rescues herself from a lifetime of boredom and matrimonial drudgery.
Pity that Tristan Lyons, the Paladin assigned to train her, is none other than the hero of her childhood. He hasn’t recognized her as Lady Samantha–yet– but if he does, he’ll take away her sword and send her packing.
Sam is not the only trainee hiding secrets: Braeden is a half-demon with a dark past that might be unforgivable.
Sam, Braeden and Tristan set out for the western coast, charged with rooting out an infestation of demons that has made the West unlivable. As they travel, they uncover a deep-seated corruption of power that threatens to derail everything they stand for. Rebellion stirs, led by a rival faction of warriors who tempt Sam to join them with an irresistible offer. A war between men is coming, and Sam must pick a side. Will saving the kingdom cost her life — or just her heart?
Reminiscent of Mulan, but with a medieval fantasy twist, Paladin is a tale of adventure, action, and romance.
In 27 Days by HonorInTheRain
Hadley Jamison doesn’t know what to think when she hears that her classmate, Archer Morales, committed suicide. She didn’t exactly know him, but that doesn’t stop her from feeling like there was something she could have done to help him.
So to Hadley’s surprise, on the very night of Archer’s funeral, she has a run in with Death himself and is offered the chance to go back in time to stop Archer from ending his life. The catch? She only has twenty-seven days to do it. And if Hadley doesn’t succeed? Well, she doesn’t want to think about that.
The One Knight Stand by therealkayelle
❝The ties that bind a King and his Knight often develop into a sacred companionship. You can always judge the success of an empire by how in sync they are. How well they work together…❞
Blue flushed, feeling very much out of place in lush palace greenhouse. She wished she hadn’t left her sword back at the armory. She felt naked in front of the Prince despite wearing fifty pounds of armor.
❝…And what exactly do you look for in a Knight?❞
❝Oh, the basics.❞ The royal gently watered the hydrangeas and red eucalyptus before turning to her. The sun flared around his flinty amber eyes. ❝Honor. Courage. Dependability. Kindness. A wicked sense of humor…❞
❝And you really think I belong by your side? Me? Hiring the woman who stole your crown jewels doesn’t sound like a solid business strategy, Bo.❞
❝Sapphires and emeralds can be easily replaced.❞ Hinting at his pearly teeth, the Prince’s pink tongue touched the corner of his bearded mouth in a raw look of pure, undisguised want.
❝…But compatibility is priceless.❞
A love story in which Blue Sanlanh, a common village thief, realizes the most dangerous aspect of court life isn’t the assassination attempts, the vicious gossip, the jousting tournaments, or the masquerade balls…
… but rather the reclusive Prince Camleang Bo often forgetting that, at the end of the day, she’s just a knight.
Arabian Nights by simeonesaidwhat
*If you read, read the first book, Once Upon a One Night Stand, first for more clarity on some characters that may be mentioned. Arabian Nights is the second book in a series.
Blair Bakhtiar always wanted to be royalty. Zayn al-Haydar wanted to be anything but. When one fateful summer brings them together, the two discover that maybe it’s not that much better on the other side… but the journey there is always full of surprises, with love being the biggest surprise of them all.
[Book #2 in the Fairytale Series – sequel to Once Upon a One Night Stand, but can be read as a standalone. a 1001 Nights & Aladdin retelling]
White Stag by Pandean
Don’t show fear. Don’t attract attention. Don’t forget who the monsters are. Those are seventeen-year-old Janneke’s three rules to surviving in the Permafrost. Her family is dead, her village burned to the ground, and now she’s a slave in a court of merciless goblins. Though her master, Soren, offers her a small sphere of protection, it comes at the cost of abandoning humanity and their ways for good.
When the Goblin King is defeated in a fight, it ignites an ancient competition to become the next King. The goal is simple: kill the sacred White Stag before the other goblins kill you. Soren sees it as the perfect opportunity to shape Janneke’s acceptance of the goblins’ way and give in to the hatred and violence festering inside of her.
Janneke’s only hope for survival is to outrun, outfight, and out-kill every creature in her path, all the while dealing with Soren, whose fierce desire for her to be a goblin is shadowed by his fascination for her human heart. Hunting the Stag is Janneke’s best chance at revenge over those who enslaved her, but to succeed, she’ll have to watch her humanity bleed out like the creatures she’s sworn to kill.
